Deeply Cleaning Bathtub Instructions

Despite being cleaned regularly, there can be some stubborn dirt and stains and survive after many cleaning efforts. Here’s how to tackle some of those lingering stains:

Hard Water Stains

Vinegar is a very normal ingredient in the kitchen but you may not know that it is also a powerful mold and stain killer. Mix vinegar with water with the ratio of 50 – 50 and then use a spray bottle to spray the mixture over the stain. Let the cleaner sit in the bathtub for an hour then clean it.The acidity of vinegar helps us to remove stains out of the bathtub surface. You may find more ways to apply vinegar on cleaning your house.

Soap Scum

If you leave your bathtub with shampoo, body gel, bath soap leftover, soap scum will be formed when the bathtub is dry. Unfortunately, soap scum can also be attributed to hard water. Minerals present in hard water, such as calcium and magnesium, mix with fatty acids in soap to form a sticky film that adheres to the bathtub. Dirt, dead skin cells, and germs are all common constituents in soap scum.

To get rid of it, mix 1 cup baking soda with 1/4 cup white vinegar. When the mixture has finished bubbling, you will be left with a paste. Allow the paste to remain on the soap scum for around 20 minutes. Scrub with a sponge and then rinse. It’s very amazing to watch the shift from scummy to gleaming.

Pink Mildew

Pink mildew forms when a kind of airborne bacterium adheres to soap scum, turning it pink or orange. Make a cleaning paste using 1/4 cup baking soda and 1 tablespoon liquid dish soap if you find it in your bathtub. Apply paste to the germs and scrub away the pink coating with a soft bristle brush. Then, rinse well. You’ll need to clean the area after the pink has faded. Spray the contaminated area with a spray bottle filled with a 1:1 mixture of bleach and water. Allow for 10 minutes before rinsing.

Rust Stains

Rust stains can be treated with a paste of borax powder and lemon juice. Sprinkle the stain with borax and use the cut half of a lemon to rub each stain until a paste forms. Let the paste stand for 15 to 30 minutes then rinse and dry.

Bathtub Cleaning Suggestions

  • Save the tub for last if you’re also cleaning the shower wall tiles.
  • Bathtub cleaning should not be painful. Make a knee pad by folding a towel lengthwise many times.
  • If draining is too slow, pour four teaspoons of baking soda and two cups of vinegar down the drain. When the bubbling has subsided, flush the drain with hot water.
  • For obstinate stains, create a paste using baking soda and water. Apply this on the stain and put it aside for a few hours to dry. Once the paste has dried, wipe it away.
  • A mesh drain catcher can keep your bathtub drain clean and clear.

Notes for safely cleaning

  • Steel wool, particularly abrasive brushes, and scouring powders should be avoided since they will damage the surface.
  • Cleaning products should never be mixed! Certain chemical mixtures, such as chlorine bleach and ammonia, can produce hazardous fumes or burn your skin.
  • When working with chemicals, ensure the space is well-ventilated. Wear rubber gloves to protect your skin.
  • Because hydrogen peroxide and bleach may stain materials, always wear old clothes when using these items.
  • Wipe and rinse away cleaning agents to ensure that no residue is left in the tub.

Out of the bathtub, you should take care of everything in your bathroom to make sure nothing is ignored. Dirt that appears in the bathtub can also appear in other parts of your bathroom such as your shower head, bathroom wall, floor, etc. Find out helpful tips here
