Humidifier sprayers, as we all know, are a common equipment in many families nowadays. With so many applications, it’s easy to see why so many people trust this product. So, what’s the best way to use and clean the mist sprayer? What are the most important things to remember when using the mist sprayer, as well as how to easily clean your humidifier?

Today, Sparkling and Beyond will show you how to use and clean your humidifier as easily as possible.

1. Proceed with basic cleaning

Wash the filter

First, open the humidifier and remove the filter. Rinse the filter with cold tap water to remove any contaminants. Then, while cleaning the rest of the filter, place the humifier’s filter on a clean cloth to dry.

Note: Cleaning the filter with a cleaning solution is not recommended since chemicals might cause the filter to fail and the machine would stop working. Some humidifiers’ filter must be replaced on a regular basis. So remember to review the manufacturer’s instructions and change the filter frequently as needed.

Rinse the water storage compartment

Remove the humidifier’s water compartment and pour out the old water. Pour 3 cups of vinegar into the container, invert the solution to completely immerse the bottom and sides of the container, and soak for at least 1 hour.

As a natural cleaner, vinegar will wash away the build-up at the bottom of the water compartment. After that, remove the vinegar and rinse the water tank. Scrub the persistent stains that accumulate on the bottom of the water tank with a brush if required.

The use of other cleaning agents is not healthy because the solution from the storage compartment will be sprayed into the air. To provide a safe environment for the entire family, you should only clean your humidifier with vinegar.

If you can’t clean the dirt with a brush, soften the contaminants with a few tablespoons of rice, vinegar, and cold water. Cover the storage compartment and shake vigorously for a minute or more before letting it rest for a while. Repeat this step until the residue no longer adheres on the storage compartment. You can then pour the mixture away and then rinse off the residue.

Wipe the inside of the frame.

Wipe the remaining portions of the humidifier with a sponge dipped in a vinegar and water solution. This keeps dust and grime out of the water compartment as well as prevents the growth of bacteria or mold.

2. How to disinfect the humidifier?

Clean the humidifier with bleach

Dissolve 1 teaspoon of bleach in about 3.8 liters of water and pour into the container. Soak the solution in it for about 1 hour to clean the surface. After that, pour out the solution and rinse the container with cold water again.

Before reinstalling the water compartment in the chassis, make sure it’s totally dry. Do not submerge the cleaner in the water compartment for more than 1 hour as it may damage the device. Do not mix Bleach with vinegar, or hydrogen peroxide with vinegar, since hazardous byproducts will be generated.

Clean humidifier with hydrogen peroxide

Fill the water tank with a few cups of hydrogen peroxide solution. Soak for 1 hour after flushing the immersion solution uniformly at the bottom and on the wall of the storage container. Then, pour the hydrogen peroxide solution into the storage container and rinse it with cold water.

Note: Do not run the humidifier indoors with vinegar in the water compartment because it will fill your home with vinegar. If the water tank still smells like vinegar after the full cleaning, add a few drops of essential oil to the humidifier.

When cleaning the humidifier’s operating section, do not use bleach or any other chemicals. With the chemical residue inside the machine, the equipment might be destroyed if you switch it on.

Clean humidifier with alcohol

Preparation:

  • 1 lemon
  • Wet towel
  • Dry towel,
  • Cotton swab,
  • Alcohol swab and tray

First, disconnect the power supply of the machine and then remove the cover of the machine in a counterclockwise direction. Remove all of the water from the machine and clean the interior and exterior well with a damp cloth or a lemon. After that, fill the mister with water and essential oil, close the lid, and turn on the machine.

How to clean the mist sprayer if it is turned off and unable to spray.

  • Step 1: Remove the cotton suction from the machine by opening the lid and pulling it out with gentle force.
  • Step 2: Gently remove the cotton core, being careful not to drop the spring within the sprayer.
  • Step 3: Place the cotton core in the glass of alcohol-infused water and squeeze out the remaining water and essential oil until the white cotton completely dried.
  • Step 4: Place the cotton core in the protective tube and connect it to the machine as usual. Step 5: Clean the steam spray head of the machine with a moist cotton swab, being careful not to rub too hard. Check the results after restarting the machine.

3. Prevents bacteria from growing

Change the water on a regular basis.

Mineral residue can build up on the walls and bottom of the storage compartment if water is left in the humidifier for a long period of time. The longer you leave the water in the machine to soak, the more filth it will collect and the more difficult it will be to clean. So, remember to change the water in your humidifier every day to prevent bacteria from growing

Clean the humidifier every 3 days.

When the humidifier is running during the dry season or when you have a cold, clean it every three days with a vinegar solution or aged oxygen. In addition, extensive cleaning should be done every two weeks or more.
